Meet ORA Orthopedics Surgeon: Dr. Edward Connolly

Dr. Edward Connolly, ORA Orthopedics

Name:

Edward Connolly

Hometown:

Dubuque, Iowa

Years in Practice:

18

Specialty:

General orthopedics at ORA Orthopedics with special interest in sports medicine, fracture care, total joint replacement and hip and knee surgery.

Favorite Movie:

Uncle Buck – John Candy’s finest movie

Favorite Book:

The Hunger Games, currently. I’m always looking for a good book.

Time well spent:

Time well spent means spending time outdoors – preferably hunting, fishing, hiking, etc.

It seems I spend most of my free time chasing my 3 children around to sports practices and contests and other events. I truly enjoy this. It allows me to remain connected with them. When I get “me” time, I spend it outdoors doing something: hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, etc. Thankfully my family enjoys the outdoors as well.

Favorite fishing hole?

North Bear Creek, Iowa.

Dream fishing hole?

Any remote pack-in stream in the mountains.

Dr. Connelly loves to get away with just a rod, reel and good friends and family.

Other interests?

I’m currently restoring a 1967 Ford Mustang with my 13-year-old son.

Who would you like to meet and why?

Jesus Christ. He is the most influential person in history. I’m surprised more people don’t answer this question with this response.

Where would you like to travel, but have never been?

Ireland. I would like to see where my family originated from.

What made you decide to become a doctor, and specifically an orthopedic surgeon?

I was always strongly interested in science and enjoyed working with people. Medicine allows this mix. During my 3rd year of medical school at the University of Iowa, I did a rotation in Orthopedics and knew that was what I wanted to do.

What do you like best about practicing medicine?

The day-to-day interactions with my patients. Over the years, I’ve gotten to really know a large number of my patients and their families.

What inspires you most about your patients?

The gratification of improving their quality of life.

If there was one piece of advice you wish your patients would take to heart, what would it be?

Keep moving. Exercise should be a part of your everyday life.
