We’ve been stuck in a weird winter, haven’t we?
There hasn’t been enough snow for winter sports, but it hasn’t been nice enough to get much in the way of sun either. The cabin fever is palpable, even for me.
Well, there’s only one thing to do when cabin fever is driving you crazy; embrace the crazy and do something a little weird!
What do I mean by weird? Nothing too drastic, just stepping outside of our comfort zones and trying some new things with smiles on our faces.
Not sure what to do? I know, it can be hard to figure out how to break out of the box when the cabin fever sets in hard, and that’s why I’ve come up with this list of ideas to help get you moving.
1. Sky Fit Sundays, Skybridge, Davenport:
Need to get active, but don’t want to go it alone – or outdoors? Head over to the Skybridge in Davenport, every Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10 AM, for Sky Fit Sundays.
No matter what your fitness level is, you can get a great workout here, and you’ll be surrounded by positive attitudes while you’re at it.
This is a great way to get your week started!
2. Family Learning Opportunities at Nahant Marsh
This isn’t the first time I’ve sung the praises of Nahant Marsh, and I’m not the only one.
They won an award for Outstanding Environmental Education Programming from the Iowa Conservation Education Coalition and the Iowa Association of Naturalists.
If you haven’t participated in one of their programs before, you’ll have an opportunity soon.
Begin with a nature hike on the first Saturday in March!
Explore the different areas of the marsh, and observe the many water-loving birds that either live at or visit the marsh.
3. Walk With a Doc, Davenport
This monthly event combines a walk with a talk on a health topic … and you can bring your pup!
Walk With a Doc is a local chapter of a national organization dedicated to bringing together health care professionals and the public to enjoy an informal, casual event that highlights those things that encourage health.
4. QC-Area Winter Hikes
Want to hike a peaceful trail within an hour’s drive of the QC? Try one of these 3 gems!
Cedar Valley Park near West Branch, IA offers a combination of river bottom land and upland forest. Beautiful!
Saulsbury Bridge Recreation Area in Muscatine, IA has some great trails.
Big River State Forest near Keithsburg, IL has more trails than you can explore in a day. Some are on old roadways which are a great option!
How will you be defeating old man winter and ushering in spring? I hope you’ll share any great ideas that I’ve missed!
Until next time, I’ll see you out there!
