All American Track Athlete Chases His Dream – In The Pool

All American Heptathlete, Cole Connell, 20, a St. Ambrose University Fighting Bee sophomore, is pursuing his dream to become a champion on the podium, despite debilitating shin injuries that threatened to derail his promising track career.

Cole’s world-class dreams take world-class injury treatment, and he has found a winning team of orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists who are supervising his recovery at ORA Orthopedics’ new 30,000 square foot clinic in northwest Davenport.  “I’ve been running on the new underwater treadmill at the clinic,” says Cole.

“It’s amazing! Not only is the water taking the pressure off my joints so my shins can heal, but the powerful jets provide enough resistance to keep me strong. I am also able to improve my running form in real time with the underwater cameras. It’s really cool!”

Leading Orthopedic Care in the Quad City Area
ORA’s new clinic, located at Northwest Boulevard and Division, was built so that ORA’s orthopedic physicians and physical therapy team can better work together to treat and supervise each patient’s unique recovery plan – all under one roof.  The location replaces the outdated and cramped Lombard clinic.

“We built the new clinic to better serve Quad City patients, especially those in the north and western portions of Scott County,” explains Ken Brockman, CEO. “Our patients deserve the best diagnostic, orthopedic treatment, and physical therapy resources available in one convenient location – this new clinic accomplishes that.”

Dr. Andrew Bries, ORA Orthopedics

ORA Sports Medicine physician, Dr. Andrew Bries, is supervising Cole’s treatment to ensure the track star’s shin pain doesn’t progress to stress fractures. Dr. Bries says he can better supervise Cole’s training regimen because ORA’s state-of-the-art physical therapy center, which is powered by Rock Valley Physical Therapy, directly connects to the physician clinic.

“I can meet with both Cole and his physical therapist, Becky Burke, and we can monitor his aquatic therapy together. It’s the gold standard for sports medicine orthopedic care.”

Mr. Brockman adds, “The clinic features the latest technology and treatment available and will serve over 4,000 patient visits a month.”

Investments include a new MRI and digital radiography equipment that provides enhanced diagnostic capability, spacious casting and exam rooms, and a 10,000 square foot physical therapy space that not only features the therapy pool and gym, but also a pitching mound for rehabilitating baseball and softball players, as well as those athletes who desire to improve their performance.

To enhance the patient experience, the clinic also houses The Atomic Coffee Shop, which will be available for both patients and local patrons alike.
